Hello: Am going to try to describe a pain scenario to see if anyone can recognize it as having had a similar one from experience or can identify it based on my crude description. Well, maybe it's not really a pain; maybe it's a discomfort or an ache. I think of pain as being identifiable to a spot and long lasting, like a sprained ankle, or a surgical incision, or a severe scratch; this is not such, but will still call it a pain for lack of a better word. This pain is transitory; it comes and goes -- out of the blue and back again. Seldom does it last for more than 10-minutes, but has been known to last for longer. Once it lasted so long and got so concerning that we called 911; by the time that they squad came, the pain had vanished; they took me to the local E-R, and they found NOTHING. Cannot say that it has ever felt like the "someone sitting on my chest" pain often mentioned in discussions of heart attacks. They checked me in E-R for the supposed tell-tale enzymes that such might cause, and there was nothing found. Seems to always happen when I'm idle doing little-to-nothing, like eating a meal, or sitting watching TV, or driving, or lying down, or sleeping. Sometimes it wakes me up from a sleep; sometimes it comes on shortly after I might wake up for whatever reason. It does not seem to be a function of my position in bed -- back/vs/side. CanNOT recall it's ever happening when I was exerting myself -- not that I do much of that these days. At times it is accompanied by sweating of the forehead and upper torso. There do not seem to any pre-cursor warnings as with a yawn or some pre- ventricular contractions, and the heart rhythm never seems disturbed. It generally (but not always) begins to grow below my right wing- bone/shoulder-blade/scapula. Then it will spread perhaps to under my right arm and down to my right elbow (not like a funny-bone strike) -- perhaps leaving my back clear. It seldom grows much in intensity, but it can; don't believe I ever wanted to say "ouch". Rarely does it ever seem to be on the front. Possibly it will move/spread to my left armpit/shoulder/elbow. Sometimes it's in all these places at once; at other times it seems to clear in one spot when it moves to another. Never gets to my hands or below my waist. Have been known to sit in my massage/vibrator chair for a time to help make it go away; not sure if that really helped or just consumed some time for it to clear. Then, as strangely as it begins, it will fade into nothingness -- somewhat like a charlie-horse/muscle-spasm after a period of tolerance or gentle massage; after it passes I go about life as though nothing happened, there seems to be no residual effects. Sometimes it will occur 3-times a day and twice at night; sometimes NOT AT ALL for MONTHS. Have had this scenario/experience off-and-on since before my cancer diagnosis in 2006, but the chemo treatments do seem to increase its occurrence. Possibly these are muscle spasms brought on by imbalance in my blood chemistry which is impacted by the chemo. Would appreciate learning if this description rings a bell with anyone who has had similar experiences and got a diagnosis. Am more concerned with what this might portend for the future in other areas, than in curing/correcting it; it's rather tolerable. just somewhat annoying/concerning. Thanks,,
